Rushcliffe Supports
This is a group of initiatives that seek to enable older people to live at home with independence, comfort and dignity. We have two initiatives currently working under the Rushcliffe Supports Project, the First Contact Signposting Scheme and the Community Outreach Advisor Service. Both these schemes are funded through Nottinghamshire County Council in conjunction with other partners.

First Contact Signposting Scheme
First Contact Signposting SchemeThe First Contact Signposting Scheme enables people aged over 60 to access a range of essential services that will help them to retain independence at home

People can receive help, advice or information on:
clubs and societies, falls prevention, home fire safety checks, home security/crime reduction, housing, pensions, social care, transport services, welfare benefits advice

The scheme is a partnership of key agencies and organisations, and it now operates in Rushcliffe, Gedling and Broxtowe. In 2006, First Contact was recognised as an 'Exemplar Project' by the Improvement and Development Agency and it has also received a number of awards of recognition.

"Last year I was ill and frightened and on my own. After this visit I have more confidence, feel safer and feel that life cannot get any better".

Community Outreach Advisor
older womanThis is a free and confidential service for older people living in Rushcliffe to help them remain safe, happy and healthy in their own homes.

The Community Outreach Advisor is able to visit you in your own home and to talk with you about what help and support you feel you need. Whether it is information or advice on getting help with transport, your pension, adaptations to your home or what local groups and clubs exist, the Community Outreach Advisor will try to put you in touch with the right help and support.

"Just also wanted to say a great big THANK YOU for all you have done for the patients referred so far. They have really appreciated your visits, and the input and referrals made. It has been really successful and made such a difference to them and their families. From my point of view, you have been a star and I know that the patients are getting a far better service and signposting into services than I could initiate myself"
Liz Harris,  Community Matron
